The must-sees

Discover Apt and the Luberon

Luberon lavender fields
What's there to see?

Highlights of your stay in Castel Luberon

The Luberon is a magical place, between river and mountain, lavender and olive trees. Sail from postcard to postcard through varied, breathtaking landscapes.

Medieval towns, hilltop villages, atypical mountains and ochre valleys, travel to the land of colors.

Ancient Roman town

The town of Apt

Situated between the Luberon massif and the Vaucluse mountains, Apt is a city that radiates both culture and sunshine. Its pedestrian lanes have retained the charm of the villages of yesteryear. Apt was founded on the orders of Julius Caesar, but the site was already inhabited in the Palaeolithic era.

Treat yourself to a visit to Sainte-Anne Cathedral. From the laying of its foundation stone by the Carolingians to its completion, it has undergone a thousand years of architectural refinement. Doesn't that deserve a little attention?

All the more so as it contains a fabulous treasure trove: reliquaries, manuscripts and, above all, the “Voile de Sainte Anne”, an 11th-century standard brought back from the Crusades.

The giant of Provence

Take the plunge and climb Mont Ventoux

If you climb it on foot, you'll be rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views over the valley. If you climb it by bike, the view will be the same, but you'll also receive our heartfelt congratulations.

sentier-des-ocres
A taste of Colorado

Ochre quarries

Dreaming of the West and the Gold Rush? It's possible, just a stone's throw from your Castel Luberon club. The region is famous for its incredible ochre quarries, traditionally compared to Colorado:

  • The sentier des Ocres (ochre trail): located in the commune of Roussillon, a pretty village well worth a visit in its own right, the trail is divided into two loops, one large and one small. The most spectacular part is clearly at the start of the walk, with a view of the ochre cliffs dotted with very green pine trees, offering a magnificent colorful contrast. Children will love rolling around in the ochre sand and dressing up as Sioux.
  • The Colorado of Provence is just a few kilometers away, in Rustrel. Two footpaths guide your visit: the Sahara circuit and the Belvedere circuit. In all, 4 km of colorful and enchanting walks.
France's most beautiful villages

The hilltop villages of the Luberon

On the mountainside, out of time, are numerous villages with narrow streets, often colorful and full of flowers. All different and all magnificent, they offer incredible views over the valley. Some are listed as France's most beautiful villages, while others deserve to be.

  •  Bonnieux
  • Gordes
  • Oppède le vieux
  • Murs…

The Sorgue descent

For a moment of calm and magic, kayak down the Sorgue from Fontaine-de-Vaucluse to the watershed at Isle-sur-Sorgue. The trip stretches over 8 km in pure water, part of the Natura 2000 network.

The village of Saignon

Saignon is a charming medieval hilltop village. It was shaped by the ruggedness of the area and the needs of farmers in days gone by. The architecture has remained the same, constrained by the environment to never evolve.

Visit its ancient troglodyte workshops, refresh yourself at its fountains, and take time to live in its small flower-filled squares.
